Natural Resources and Environment
The Natural Resources and Environment Department is headed by the City Natural Resources Officer
and is responsible for the implementation of policies, rules, regulations and Council bye-laws on
conservation and sustainable exploitation of natural resources and proper sanitation and
environmental management.
The Natural resource Department is responsible for all the environment issues. The city has a fully functional Environment Office that coordinates in collaboration with the District and other stakeholders (Environment Police)
Functions of the Natural Resource Department
- Supporting community initiative for the renewal and sustainable exploitation of the natural environment
- Sensitizing the public on environmental conservation policies, laws and regulations
- Monitoring and supervising activities relating to the environment within the City
- Enforce implementation of the national and city environment action plans
- Identify opportunities and constraints to optimal use of wetlands resources
- Compiling reports on environment degradation activities and practices
